Creating Lasting Impact
Our Current Projects
New Jersey AIDS Partnership
AIDS has hit New Jersey hard
- The state ranks 5th in the number of reported AIDS cases, and has the 3rd highest total number of pediatric AIDS cases in the country
- New Jersey has the highest percentage of women who are infected with the disease — women currently represent 36% of residents living with HIV/AIDS
- Half of all new HIV infections are in people age 25 and under. In New Jersey, AIDS has already orphaned more than 10,000 children
Fighting Back AIDS in New Jersey
The New Jersey AIDS Partnership has teamed with The Community Foundation and Hyacinth AIDS Foundation to support community-based agencies in their efforts to respond to this crisis by:
- Increasing awareness of the HIV/AIDS epidemic
- Promoting public education and prevention among at-risk populations
- Developing innovative resources to address unmet needs
Progress in the Battle
To date, the New Jersey AIDS Partnership has awarded 270 grants totaling more than $5 million to organizations throughout the state. Some programs receiving funding have been:
- The Women and AIDS initiative, which provided training in community organizing, advocacy and legal issues to affected women and providers
- Demonstration projects geared toward educating youth on HIV prevention
- An initiative is designed to serve the needs of AIDS orphans, their families and caregivers — a problem that often goes unrecognized
Looking ahead, The Hyacinth AIDS Foundation and The Community Foundation are committed to extending The New Jersey AIDS Partnerships impact and strengthening community-based efforts to reduce the spread of AIDS in New Jersey and the suffering it causes.
