Help Students Find the Words to Succeed

Some bright, motivated Hispanic students are at a disadvantage when applying for scholarships and colleges because of lower verbal SAT scores. One likely reason is that, because they speak Spanish at home with their families, they have fewer opportunities to expand their English vocabularies.

Jim Lynch, our Scholarship Committee Chairman, discovered a disproportionate number of Hispanic students at Memorial High School in West New York, his alma mater, scoring low on their verbal SATs.

To help them succeed, he explored the issue with school officials. Their solution: enlist Princeton Review to create a customized SAT preparation class emphasizing vocabulary.

Benefits of Support
  • Each $300 grant provides a scholarship to the Princeton Review course for one Memorial student
  • The course will be offered after school to Memorial sophomores and juniors who meet certain academic standards
  • Students and their families will pay $50 for the $350 course

Your grant will help these students better compete for scholarships, measure up on college applications, and ensure that their dreams for the future aren't lost in translation.
