Philanthropic Workshops Help Neighbors in Need
Knowing the recession would wreak havoc on local families at risk, Jumpstart Fund founder, Susie Schub, launched Caring Capital in 2009 to expand the corps of helpful volunteers. Through philanthropic workshops, 6,500 volunteers have made gifts for 5,000 needy neighbors.
Once a group decides whom to help — homeless families, low-income children — Jumpstart’s team specifies needs — portable tables, fleece hats and scarves — and guides gift-making workshops. Although this video features corporate volunteers, NJ colleges seek funds to engage students in this vital service.
